| Ken Young has been sketching and drawing with pencil and pen and ink from a very young age copying favorite comic book characters. He learned many skills through a correspondence course with Art Instruction Schools, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was introduced to oil in high school in 1971 and became fascinated with color, light and shadow. Since then oil has been his favorite medium. His subjects range from landscapes of every season, to human and animal portraits. As a member of the Columbia County Arts and Crafts Guild he has exhibited his works many times at Olana in Hudson, NY where he has won first prize for pen and ink. He has also exhibited at Columbia Greene Community College, Hudson City Savings Institution and Seventh Street Park in Hudson, NY and Poughkeepsie Savings Bank. Between the years 1992-94 he was commissioned by Parker O’Malley Air Museum to do a series of 20 paintings commemorating the history of aviation from the first flight of the Wright brothers to WWII. Hudson High School friends remember him as the graduate who drew a self portrait in the 1975 yearbook. During his senior year he received two scholarships to further his art studies in college. However, at that same time he became fascinated with the Bible and was convinced that the search for ultimate truth was a much higher priority than furthering his artistic ability. The succeeding years deepened his appreciation for who he now truly believes is the greatest and yet most neglected artist of all time Jehovah God. Although currently self-employed as a house painter he is often seen with his camera, which he carries everywhere, photographing something of God’s handiwork that has caught his interest in his travels in Columbia County or around his customers home or property to later work from at home. |
